Condo Decorating Tips and Tricks

Decorating your condo doesn't mean you have to assume a dorm rat mentality. Today's condos come complete with open floor plans and designer touches.

1) MEASURE your space even if it’s just one room.

By measuring your space you have all the valuable information needed to help you select your items for each room. This allows you to confirm your measurements for furniture before delivery and your new items will fit into the room. Remember to measure your window heights so you won’t block window views!

2) Take an Inventory! Inventory what items are necessary for the room to function.

For example in a bedroom, you will need a bed for sleeping but what size (check your measurements in tip#1) and what other items are needed to complete the necessary list and the items desired depending on your budget requirements. Don’t forget the little details such as accessories, and artwork. This inventory list can be very valuable for insurance settlement in case of a fire, etc.

3) Start your research for styles & colours!! But where do you begin?

Anything can be used for inspiration such as a favourite colour, fabric, piece of artwork, furniture style such as modern, contemporary or even texture. And then select items pertaining to your inventory list and choice of colours.

4) Don’t be afraid of colour!

Colour brings life into a room and can create vibrant, dramatic scenes. When selecting paints, the manufacturers have made it easier for you by grouping colours together in paint samples. Think about contrast between light and dark colours to create more impact. Artwork and accessories also bring colour into a room when you are limited with changing wall colours as in a rental unit.

5) Accessories make the room! Personalize your space.

It is interesting to see various condos and how individuals create different looks for each unit. When adding accessories think of grouping items into threes or odd numbers. And vary the height of your accessories for more dramatic impact. Don’t forget the little details with your windows to complete your new look for your room(s).
